What did YOU have for dinner?

I'm curious about what my readership, friends or strangers, is eating. Especially if you are from a country besides the USA. From the logs I can tell that I have a small number of international readers; I'm especially interested in you.

So if you please, I'd love it if you would write in the comments about what you ate.

I'll start. Last night me and mantid went to a restaurant in my neighborhood called Coastal Kitchen. They have a revolving international menu. This month the featured country is Brazil. We both had a little bit of fried pastry called an "Empada", described thus:

BRAZIL'S VERSION OF AN EMPANADA, THIS HANDMADE PUFF PASTRY PIE IS STUFFED WITH BLACK BEANS, OKRA, TOMATOES & CHEESE AND DRIZZLED WITH A TAMED HABANERA LEMON SAUCE.

It was pretty good, but I am told that its not very Brazillian.

Last night I had leftover chicken stew and mashed potatoes. I had more grand plans but got too late a start - perhaps tonight instead. I'm hoping to post descriptions plus recipes and photos of more of my cooking goodness on my upcoming food blog. Need to snag me a cheap digicam to get pics as I will not set up the good gear on a nightly basis (I don't think) unless the food looks particularly spectacular.

Tonight I made eggplant with garlic sauce for the first time. I left out the pork as I had none on hand and added some tapioca starch right near the end to help the sauce thicken up a little better. It turned out really good - with a little bite from the chili-garlic sauce countered by the sweetness of the sugar.

Hola,
Ileigh here reporting from Peru!
today i had avocado (palta) on bread (pan) because itīs cheap!
besides that, every vegetarian meal consits of a shitload of carbohydrates, there are no meat substitutes here!
locals eat guinnie pigs, goats, pigs, cows, chicken, trout (trucha) and every meal has 3 courses..
soup (sopa) sometimes with quinoa or ususally potato
then some rice with potatoes, lima beans, carrots, beats.. yum, but iīm pretty protein starved...
and then postre for desert, somwhere betweeen jello and a thick fruit juice!

oh, the other day we had a Peruvian treat-
Pacha Manca
they heat rocks for 3 or 4 hours in the fire, then they dig a big whole in the ground, and a layer of hot rocks, layer of potatoes, layer of hot rocks, layer of chicken, and so on, with all different types of potatoes, chicken and some unidentifiable meat (which i didnīt eat)
they cover it with straw, rocks and earth and let it "cook" half the day!!

my favorite so far is a fried quiona panckake! they cook the quinoa and then add egg and form little pancakes, and deep fry!! yumm, try it at home folks! well, thatīs my love from Peru!!

blessings
ileigh
