Don't invent bands. If you make up a name, you will give yourself away. You might think, "How can that be?" Again, that's just the way it works. So no cheating.
Posted by bug at October 3, 2003 04:10 PM | TrackBackPretty sound advice, although I should point out that when in the Midwest (particularly in Minnesota) it's not wise to claim an affinity for The Replacements, Husker Du and Soul Asylum all at once. If you like one of these bands, you probably hate the other two: for instance, I like Husker Du, but even Bob Mould's production on Made To Be Broken and Say What You Will couldn't save Soul Asylum from being the Silverchair of '80s indie rock. And the Replacements? Don't even get me started on the fucking Replacements.
(The key to indie rock snobbery is less in who you love than in who you hate.)
